LFC.tv goes HD and 24 hours – for a price

LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB have announced today that their satellite and cable TV channel, LFCTV, is to become a HD channel. The move sees it become a 24 hour channel – but it will now cost an extra £7 per month to get it.

The channel has been on the air since 2007, when it launched as part of the Setanta package. When the Irish satellite broadcaster’s UK arm collapsed the club struck a deal with Sky that saw it bundled in as part of the ‘family package’, meaning it could be viewed even by customers who’d avoided the much more expensive sports bundles.

LFC TV moves into HD and 24 hours

The HD version of LFCTV will launch on Tuesday November 4th with the club in Spain for the away tie against Real Madrid. The club says the first day will include live broadcasts from the Spanish capital.

In return for the £84 a year service fans will get to see “a new-look interactive studio, regular live news bulletins from Melwood training ground every day, more behind the scenes access, exclusive interviews, features and documentaries.”

The club also claim: “Match days will be like never before, with extended pre-match build up and post-match analysis with Anfield legends, extensive coverage from every European Liverpool game and full match replays of every First Team game. Fans will also get exclusive, live coverage of all U21s and U18s home fixtures as well as coverage of the Liverpool Ladies’ season.”

The club’s Chief Media Officer, Matthew Baxter, says: “Over the last seven years we have built a channel that gives fans a level of insight into the inner workings of the club. We now have the opportunity to deliver improved behind the scenes access alongside bigger and better content in high definition every hour of the day, making LFCTV the first destination for all Club related news.”

The new channel will be available for Sky viewers on channel 429, and for Virgin Media customers on channel 544.

The press release didn’t give any details of how this impacts existing LFC TV Go customers, who already pay £60 per year to view the current service online, and now look like having to pay a total of £144 a year to see the club’s self-produced content.

More details on adding the channel for Sky customers can be found here: LFCTV on Sky.

    £7 a month is £84 a year, no?

Still, it’s the end of me watching it.

On question…when doing post-match analysis, will they be able to show what they are talking about – goals and incidents from the game?

    • Hi Mark – yes, it is £84 a year, I messed up when editing the piece, it’s £144 in total for the two products (Sky channel + LFC’s online sub) unless the club announce something is changing. In fact it’s 12p less than that, it’s £4.99 a month for LFC TV online.

Looks like that’s the end of me watching the channel then. My family are Sky subscribers but I’m the only LFC fan in the house & the Sky subscription is expensive as it is.

Guess I could offer to pay the extra £7 per month as I’ll be the only one using the channel? Something to think about. I certainly like being able to watch matches in full when they’re not televised.

Another source of revenue for the club too methinks.
