Liverpool FC player awards night to be opened up to fans
LIVERPOOL FC have revealed today that they will be opening up this year’s Players’ Awards night for attendance by supporters. Last year’s event, the first one ever, was limited to invitees and a certain number of VIP tables sold for charity – this year will see general admission tickets made available.
The ceremony sees the club award representatives from its first team, Academy and Ladies sides, along with some awards dished out to fans and former players, and takes place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Tuesday May 19th.
Last year’s event was also held on the Echo Arena site, but in a smaller setting next door, and in the end it fell at a time of great disappointment for Liverpool fans, staff and players alike just after the club’s league hopes had crumbled against Crystal Palace.
This year, according to Reds CEO Ian Ayre, there will be a “great atmosphere” thanks to the addition of Liverpool supporters at the event. “Our player awards evening provides us with the opportunity to look back across the season and recognise all those involved in this great club,” Ayre said in a press release. “Being able to share this special evening with our supporters will create a great atmosphere and I’m sure will be a very special night for everyone.”
Tickets cost from from £28 (+ Booking Fee + Handling Fee), according to the club website. The Echo Arena website (www.echoarena.com/whats-on/liverpool-fc-players-awards-2015) lists the tickets at £31.50, £41.50 and £77.50, which they say includes the booking fee but excludes a £2.25 booking fee per order. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Wednesday.
Awards to be presented on the evening include Player of the Year Awards (first team, ladies team and Academy), Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Year.
The club add that the evening “will also feature a special tribute to Liverpool FC captain, Steven Gerrard, who will leave the club at the end of the season.”
The event takes place after Liverpool’s last home game for the club, which means Gerrard will have played his last competitive match at Anfield. The final game of the season, away to Stoke, takes place the following Sunday, the night before an Istanbul reunion night also taking place at the Echo Arena.
Fans can also vote in a number of categories, with voting for POTY and Young POTY open from today, whilst the votes for Goal of the Year and Player Performance of the Year can be cast from April 27th.
VIP table packages are also available, priced at up to £6250 + VAT per table of ten.
The awards night will be raising funds for the LFC Foundation.
